Childrens Books

One of my most lasting childhood memories is waking up one morning to find the complete Swallows and Amazons series laid out on the floor by my bed. My parents, knowing that I'd read and loved the first one, had ordered the other 11, as a surprise present... not even my birthday or anything. I still have them, and return often to the world of the Norfolk Broads

  • Fattypuffs and Thinifers Andre Maurois This just came back to my memory as a book I really enjoyed, about two boys, one fat, one thin, and being the size you are.

  • Can't You Sleep, Little Bear? and the other Little Bear books. Martin Waddell The best bedtime stories ever. Wonderful pictures too. Great to read out loud to yourself, and for safety stuff, like being afraid of the dark.

A great book from now is Liking Myself by Pat Palmer written just for kids, and great for inside kids too, all about self esteem and not being a "pretzel person" who twists themselves up in knots to please other people. Good stuff on feelings too.
